Persuasion: The Grief That Stole Christmas, with Nancy Guthrie

Although we assume December should be full of all things merry and bright, grief has a way of stealing our Christmas joy. Many people have a hard time getting in the Christmas spirit, so to speak—some are dealing with seasonal depression, others are grieving the death of a loved one. Whatever the reason, when grief visits during Christmas, we need help knowing how to support each other in the midst of emotions that seem contradictory to the season. Our unease in death and loss stir up our own emotions and nerves, often leading us to say and do things that add salt to those open wounds. Knowing what to say and what to do for those who are grieving isn’t easy. In this episode of Persuasion, Erin Straza and Hannah Anderson welcome author and Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie for a discussion about how we can better support those having a blue Christmas. Speaking from her own experiences of loss and grief, Nancy provides gentle and wise insight into what grieving hearts need most. Nancy’s recent book from Crossway is titled What Grieving People Wish You Knew About What Really Helps (and What Really Hurts); the ebook has been made available to Christ and Pop Culture members this month.
