I just saw this earlier today, it’s kind of weird. I am not sure what it actually communicates for Nike’s benefit.
If Tiger had made a new Nike commercial that completely avoided the situation all together, I think people would have been just as mad. Him coming back to golf this week is a big deal, and it’s a good business move by Nike and by Tiger – which is what a commercial should be.
Also, I don’t think Tiger would ever exploit his father – he and his dad had an incredibly close relationship. Personally, I thought the commercial was great. I wish him luck this week at the Masters.
I don’t think this is what the commercial actually communicates but what crossed my mind was this: “Just Do It” you can always apologize later…sadly alot of people think that way, but it probably would have been a bad move on Nike’s part to go with that concept.
