More alarming than this kid’s texting habits, and her parents’ response, is the premise that this is news worthy at all.

I am glad you picked up on this and the questionable newsworthiness of the story. I think the answer may lie in the father of the girl being a reporter with said publication. Methinks daddy might have been getting some payback. Didn’t think it fitted with the scope of my humble blog!
