The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Recap: Brick by Brick (Episode 6)
As a Black man, Sam Wilson carries the lineage of America’s broken promise, by both heritage and by lived experience.

“I owe you an apology,” the Winter Soldier tells Sam. “I’m sorry.”

It is not normal for those with power to lay it down for another’s sake. To those insecure in their power, this feels like surrender. It feels like shame. Humiliation.

That’s the thing about this show. Unlike WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s mysteries are probably the least interesting thing about it.

If Steve was wrong about Bucky, then it means all the hard work of amending for his former murderous self has been a waste. And it’s only a matter of time before Bucky snaps again.

Sam is, by every measure, the living embodiment of American excellence and all the ideals for which the shield stands. But he’s not just any man. He’s a Black man.

Agatha takes Wanda to therapy, and the show essentially takes its viewers to therapy, as well.

Pietro doesn’t mind if he leads Wanda back to the moral question of Westview, so long as she never acts on it.

If Wanda really is in control, then that means she’s more powerful than we’ve ever realized.

What is the thematic consistency that binds together all the stories of the MCU?

This week’s WandaVision takes us back to MCU’s most iconic event: Back when Bruce Banner un-Blipped every Blipped being back to their bereaved baes.

Whatever is happening, the world as I tend to frame it is far too small; my conception of it, too limiting.

I don’t think a heavy-handed scene in which the women of the MCU are haphazardly thrown together is reason enough on its own to cheer, but I am encouraged by the possibility that Marvel recognizes a deficiency.

In striving to move forward and figure out who he is, Thor feels the need to atone for his past failures.

Hidden in the shadows of these movies are cosmic truths worth unearthing and revisiting as they help us understand our culture and what we can uniquely contribute to it.

Movies with such a dismal ending don’t usually inspire audiences to keep coming back for more—let alone smash box office records—so what’s really going on with Infinity War?
